The Rule of Thirds






The rule of thirds is a guideline used for photography, film making, art and graphic design. This helps by adding three imaginary lines horizontally and vertically to help you fit the most important elements of your material where the lines intersect.

Examples of Rule of Thirds:

Using the rule of thirds, we can see that the most important elements of this photo is the dog and the contrast of the grass combined to create energy in the picture.

In this picture, we can see tension being used to illustrate the high points of this picture, which have been aligned using the rule of thirds.

Now, we can see that the sunset has been placed in the middle block of the grid. The elements of where the lines intersect are used to compliment the sunset and create a sense of tension.
